Are you or do you know somebody who wants to make friends and develop interests in way that is both educational and (most importantly) fun? Somebody who wants a break from the usual after school routine of homework, games and watching television?
Are you an adult who wants to provide young people with exciting and challenging experiences and then help them use those experiences in their personal and social development?
YES? - read on ...
The Scout Section is adult led and is for young people (boys and girls), usually aged between 10½ and 14 years. Scouts are organised into Troops and a Troop's members will generally come from the local area. A young person can come into the Scout Troop at 10 and may stay until they are 15 years old, when they move up into Explorer Scouts. The Scout Troop will form part of a Scout Group and is the third and final Section within it (Beaver Scouts are for 6 to 8 year olds and Cub Scouts are for young people aged 8 to 10½).
Scouts are encouraged to take part in a wide range of activities as part of their programme. "Participation" rather than meeting set standards is the key approach and for the Scout who wants to be recognised for his or her achievements there are a number of Challenges Awards and Activity Badges. Scouts take part in a balanced programme that helps them to find out about the world in which they live, encourages them to know their own abilities and the importance of keeping fit and helps develop their creative talents. It also provides opportunities to explore their own values and personal attitudes
Being outdoors is important and half the Programme is given over to this part of Scouting. Our activities are about action and involvement and mean more than just camping. Hiking, rock climbing, gliding, sailing, pioneering, canoeing, parascending, abseiling, putting on shows and exhibitions, motor mechanics, electronics, photography, survival skills, cooking, first aid - the list is endless!
Scouting is about being with friends, as part of a team, participating fully in the adventure and opportunities of life. Above all, being in Scouts is simply great FUN and lets young people take part in things that can't always be done elsewhere ....
